Firefox extension you must download

I just saw this Firefox extension with Kharim and I immediately asked how to download it as it's a must have. When switching tabs, it rotates and it's cool. I can't explain it really well. Read more here. There's also a diagram that shows the transition between tabs as it rotates. You can download it here.

How do you want to be remembered?

When you die, how do you want to be remembered? What legacy do you want to have left behind for your friends, family, spouse, children, grandchildren, community, country, world?

If given a chance, will you look back on your life and have any regrets? Will there be decisions you wouldn't make in retrospect?

How do you plan to use the remaining time you have left (1 second to 100 years)? Where do you think you'll spend eternity? Do you even believe in life after death?

Do you live life scared of the day you eventually kick the bucket or do you live life to its fullest?

Wow

I know that reminds you of the Vista Ad but Kobe has decided to take over. He scored 65 and 50 in his previous two games and then dropped 60 on Memphis today joining the elite company of Elgin Baylor, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to have three straight 50-point games.

What else can I say?

Update: Kobe made it four games with 50+ points against NO, but the streak ended at 4 when he scored only 43 in the win against Golden State. That moved him to second all-time against Wilt who had 7 consecutive 50+ point games.

I almost didn't graduate???

I have never been so happy to be charged $100 in my whole life. That $100 is my graduation fee which tells me that come May 12, 2007, I'll be done with my undergraduate degree and would be moving on to other ventures (another story for a different time).

Now, why was I so happy to be charged my graduation fee? Shouldn't I have been expecting it since I am in fact a senior? Well, that's the point of this epistle.

At the beginning of the year, we were supposed to apply for graduation and I thought it was preposterous, thinking that since I am a senior, I didn't need to apply for graduation to actually graduate so I didn't apply. I decided that not applying and actually graduating would prove that the whole process was a farce.

I know, what was I thinking? What would I have been able to gain if I could actually prove it? Comparing the possible reward with the risk associated with the decision makes it sound more stupid by the second.

Well, last week, I realized that everyone else had been charged $100 for graduation and I hadn't. At first, I wondered if there was a problem with my account so I didn't really think much about it (notice this trend? see my previous blog post for more). After confirming that there was nothing wrong with my account, I realized I hadn't been charged because I didn't fill out the application for graduation. Well, I was honestly scared that I might not graduate because I failed to fill out one form which I could easily have filled without stress.

I ran to the Office of Student Services in CEACS to speak with Ms. King who told me I could get the form online. I filled it and submitted the form and here I am today.

On the form, the deadline was October 9 of last year. When I spoke to Ms. King in my hour of need, she said the deadline was the end of this month. Well, since I tested one deadline, I could as well have tested this one to see if it was a hard one but it never crossed my mind as I submitted the form as fast as I possibly could.

I realize I could still have tried to keep to my stance regarding what I was trying to prove but I am happy that I even had the chance to be redeemed from the error of my ways. I guess the only thing that I can claim to have proven is that if you are lucky and have God's grace, you might still have till March to see the error of your ways. Beyond that, I had no inclination to test anything any further.

This is an example of the kind of silly mistakes that I have made this academic year. I don't think I have made as many significant mistakes as I have made this school year within any other time period in my life. As time goes on, I might be able to share more of these mistakes so that you don't fall into the same trap or at least you learn something from them. I wasn't burned by this mistake but time would tell about the others.

PS: I still think it's preposterous that I should apply to graduate but I should have filled the form and fulfilled all righteousness as it wasn't worth the hassle. And nothing against the folks at the Office of Student Services, I like them a lot, I just don't like this system.

The state of society

I was just watching this episode of The Bernie Mac Show and he was sued for kibeing a negligent parent because one of the ds who was having a sleepover in his house injured her arm.

While growing up back in Nigeria, I had many sleepovers, even worse than sleepovers. I spent whole holidays in my cousins and family friends' houses and they also came to our place. Whichever parents were hosting were responsible for the children under their control and treated them just like their own.

If anything happened to any of us kids, I doubt anything as serious as being sued would have occurred as the parents knew what they were getting into when they allowed their children out of their sight and stay with someone else.

Two things to take into consideration is that none of us ever got injured (at least not that I remember) and I doubt the court system is as advanced as it is here where any and every one sues at their hearts' delight.

So, what's the point of all this? It just seemed weird that a parent would sue another for an accident that occurred while the parent willingly allowed his daughter spend the night in another person's house. I know that this is just a TV show but I am in no doubt that this can very much happen hence this post.

Identity theft

I couldn't think of a more suitable title so I have to go with that.

About two weeks ago, I logged into Bank Of America online and I saw some pending charges that I didn't authorize, I was wondering what was going on but didn't do anything about it just then as I didn't fully comprehend the situation. I later checked my email and noticed I had received an email from Bank Of America indicating that my card had been suspended because of irregular activity and I had to call them to verify this activity. This was when it hit me and I understood the severity of the situation. I called them immediately and explained what was going on, had my card canceled and had to call some of the merchants telling them the transactions were unauthorized, and I have been going through the whole process since then.

I received my new check card in the mail on Monday and it brings up a few challenges:

  • I have to forget my old number and remember this new one. When I got my check card, I still had a knack for remembering numbers so I put it into memory. I have not been so lucky with my credit cards although I haven't really tried to remember them.
  • Anywhere the old number was on file, I have to make sure I delete it so I don't get into trouble when ordering stuff. For example, GoDaddy had to call me when they were trying to automatically renew the hosting on my account. As I am writing this, two places have already come to mind where I have to remove / change my number: Amazon and Google Checkout. Update: Even Paypal has the same card. Sigh!!!
  • I have to be more careful how I deal with all this money information as this stuff is real although I have no idea how my information got compromised as I never lost my card: I cut it after I spoke with the Bank Of America representative.
One thing though is that I had Bank Of America Privacy Assist on a trial mode and with this situation just occurring, I am more likely to keep it going for the foreseeable future. Yes, I know about annualcreditreport.com but right now, I'd rather prevent than cure stuff.

Enid Blyton

When I was young, I read a lot of books and one of the authors I regularly read was Enid Blyton and there were a few series I liked and I am thinking of starting a collection. Some of these series are Secret Seven, Famous Five, Malory Towers, and St. Clares. Hey, no questions asked.

The first series I will probably get is Malory Towers because there are only six of them. I plan to get them here.

Also, in the spirit of going back to those days, I just ordered Seven lucky kids on Amazon and I expect it to be here on Tuesday.
