The state of society

I was just watching this episode of The Bernie Mac Show and he was sued for kibeing a negligent parent because one of the ds who was having a sleepover in his house injured her arm.

While growing up back in Nigeria, I had many sleepovers, even worse than sleepovers. I spent whole holidays in my cousins and family friends' houses and they also came to our place. Whichever parents were hosting were responsible for the children under their control and treated them just like their own.

If anything happened to any of us kids, I doubt anything as serious as being sued would have occurred as the parents knew what they were getting into when they allowed their children out of their sight and stay with someone else.

Two things to take into consideration is that none of us ever got injured (at least not that I remember) and I doubt the court system is as advanced as it is here where any and every one sues at their hearts' delight.

So, what's the point of all this? It just seemed weird that a parent would sue another for an accident that occurred while the parent willingly allowed his daughter spend the night in another person's house. I know that this is just a TV show but I am in no doubt that this can very much happen hence this post.
