Ashley Cole staying

It seems that the Ashley Cole saga has come to an end for the time being with the Telegraph reporting no winner in the bitter game of poker between Arsenal and Chelsea regarding the services and valuation of Cole. With the transfer window not ending till Thursday, there's still a possibility that Cole might leave. However, that's highly unlikely as Cole was part of the Arsenal reserve team that won 4-0 yesterday.

The big question now is: How would the fans react to the want away player?

My view on this?

I was in favor of the club selling him to Chelsea for the right amount despite the fact that I think he's the best left back in this world. Do you know the key part of the previous sentence? He's just a left back. I don't (didn't) care how valuable he was to the club and the level of experience he was bringing. If he wanted to leave for a decent piece of change, I was ready to let him go and I think that was what Arsenal was interested in doing.

When the rumors regarding including Gallas as part of the deal came up, I was even more excited because we would be getting rid of a player who wanted to leave, getting the money to replace the player (Kaladze?) and getting an ideal partner for Kolo Toure in the center of the defense.

Alas, it seems it might not be so. I would welcome Cole back into the team as long as he's willing to put the interest of the team first and play to guarantee us victories. I am sure the other players would also welcome him back considering they didn't want him to leave in the first place.

Despite all this, there are still about 48 hours left in the transfer window and a flurry of transfer activity can still occur. There's no guarantee that Ashley Cole will still be a gunner on the 1st of September. We just have to wait and see, don't we?

I hate school

Why do I hate school?

Because I go into class and I immediately got bored with what the teacher has to say regardless of which course or professor is taking the class.

I need help!!!

The only positive thing is that I am yet to sleep in any of my classes. I am sure this is because this is still early days. Would most likely change soon.

Update: it didn't take me long to sleep in class. I slept in my first class today.

Too much stuff to carry / ship

I am packing to go back to school and the amount of things I have is ridiculous. I either brought too much stuff here or have acquired too much stuff since I came here or it's a mixture of both. I am going to lean towards both because I had to pay for extra luggage on my 2 suitcases when I was coming here (what I was carrying I am not sure).

Now, I might have to ship a whole box full of stuff just to be able to travel with only two boxes: this is insane.

More snakes ...

I don't get with this snakes frenzy the media and everybody seems to be in. The amount of traffic that has been garnered by this is ridiculous. It's not as if I am any better. Here is me not helping matters.

I liked this one the most.

Microsoft gets Facebook ads

After Google got MySpace's search last week, Microsoft has retaliated with signing up to provide search and ads for Facebook.

The battle between the top two tech giants rages on.

I wonder what Bobby is thinking

In what can only be described as very weird, it has come out that Osama really liked Whitney Houston and would go to any lengths to get her even as far as whacking her husband, Bobby Brown.

The story was so hilarious I was cracking up.

The positive? (depending on which side you are coming from) thing coming out of this is that there might finally be a way to catch Osama Bin Laden: use Whitney as bait. The questions is: Is she that patriotic?

Facebook Notes

Facebook just came out with "Facebook notes". It's like a blog but has special Facebook quirks like "tagging" your friends who the note is about.

You can also import your blog from other websites to Facebook. Your imported notes are readonly. They also provide a link to the original post if the note is imported from a blog. One funny thing is that I have blogs in both Blogger and Spaces in my profile and it only recognized that Blogger was a blog and prompted me to import that.

There could be a few reasons why Spaces wasn't imported at all:
  • It doesn't recongize Windows live Spaces as a blog
  • The functionality to import Blogs from Spaces hasn't been done yet and would be a V2 feature proving Scoble right that most people don't view Windows Live Spaces as a blog
  • They can only import one blog at a time and decided to go for Blogger as opposed to Spaces because it's more mainstream
  • And a whole lot more possible reasons.

It would be interesting to see what blogging services they support and what the impact of this new Facebook feature would do for blogging in general.

I am going to continue blogging here (here being Blogger as you could be reading this from Facebook) because Facebook automatically imports my blog from here to my Facebook Note.

Special people born in August

Apart from the fact that I was born in August, Sergey was also born in August. Today is his birthday.

I am going to look for other important people (like me) who are of August heritage.

First, I will start with Thierry Henry, Arsenal forward.

Know any others?, let me know.

Update (6/14/2007): Kobe Bryant was born in August

The Birthday window / Law

I turned 20 about a week ago and I noticed something that kinda happened last year and has happened to other people with me being guilty of the crime: forgetting someone’s birthday but remembering close enough to the exact date for it to be forgiven.

This year was better than last year as more people got it right but still there are some people who are really close to me that said “Happy Birthday” a day later. There are even fewer people who had to be reminded or who still haven’t acknowledged it yet. I am hoping that the latter are planning something for when they actually see me to redeem their sins because they are already in big trouble because it’s been almost a week and no word…

From my experiences, I am going to propose a birthday window or a birthday law. I am not sure of what to name it so I am going to leave it to the experts to do the right naming and just focus on what the Law actually says/mandates: there is a 73 hour? window of opportunity for people to wish you a happy birthday. These 73 hours consist of the first time the day occurred in any time zone in the world and the last time it occurred in the last time zone in the world on the next day.

Was that confusing? Let me explain. My birthday was the 15th of August. According to my Windows computer, the first place to experience a particular day is Nuku’alofa (GMT +13:00). As I was in California (GMT -08:00), when it struck 12 midnight in Nuku’alofa, people from any part of the world could call me and wish me a happy birthday 21 hours before it actually struck midnight in California. This especially works for people who are in Nuku’alofa or people who saw the birthday somewhere like Facebook and would not be online or be able to wish me a happy birthday in my time zone because of different reasons.

Extending it to the next day for those in a later time zone or the forgetful amongst us who realized late (they were thinking of you because they love you so much and they happened to check the date and saw that it was the 16th instead of the 15th and realized they missed your birthday or checked your Facebook profile/wall and saw so many people wishing you a happy birthday…). For whatever reason these people forgot the exact day, the next day is their opportunity for them to redeem their sins and for you to make them feel very guilty and get something out of them if you can (especially if they are close to you :) ). Also, according to my Windows laptop, the last place to experience a particular day is the International Date Line West (GMT -12:00) which is 25 hours after it actually struck midnight in California on the 15th (4 hours after wards on the 16th).

This especially works because of the global world we are in and knowing people across different time zones. I knew people in the Midwest (GMT -06:00), East coast (GMT -05:00), London (GMT), and Nigeria (GMT +01:00) and maybe people in other parts of the world who I didn’t know were in these other locations who said Happy Birthday.

There is now a twist to this. Those who happen to say “Happy Birthday” in the 24 hours of the exact day of the time zone you are in should be recommended, given their props and brought even closer. For example, I go to school on the east coast, but worked on the West coast this summer so there were people who expected me to be on the east coast and so said it a bit prematurely for where I was. On the other hand, there are people (family and close friends) who were aware that I was on the West coast on that day and so called at 12 Midnight California time to wish me a happy birthday.

The cool thing about this theory/law is that it occurs for any type of anniversary and not only birthdays and with the way the world is now because of technology, there’s not really an excuse to forget someone’s birthday/anniversary.

I have a solution to the birthday forgetfulness issue but that’s the story for another day.

Putting snakes on a page

There has been a lot of hype about Snakes on a Plane. I haven't actually seen the movie yet but will most likely see it something.

You can now "snake a page" thanks to Lockergnome. I got the link from Chris Pirillo.
