It seems that the Ashley Cole saga has come to an end for the time being with the Telegraph reporting no winner in the bitter game of poker between Arsenal and Chelsea regarding the services and valuation of Cole. With the transfer window not ending till Thursday, there's still a possibility that Cole might leave. However, that's highly unlikely as Cole was part of the Arsenal reserve team that won 4-0 yesterday.
The big question now is: How would the fans react to the want away player?
My view on this?
I was in favor of the club selling him to Chelsea for the right amount despite the fact that I think he's the best left back in this world. Do you know the key part of the previous sentence? He's just a left back. I don't (didn't) care how valuable he was to the club and the level of experience he was bringing. If he wanted to leave for a decent piece of change, I was ready to let him go and I think that was what Arsenal was interested in doing.
When the rumors regarding including Gallas as part of the deal came up, I was even more excited because we would be getting rid of a player who wanted to leave, getting the money to replace the player (Kaladze?) and getting an ideal partner for Kolo Toure in the center of the defense.
Alas, it seems it might not be so. I would welcome Cole back into the team as long as he's willing to put the interest of the team first and play to guarantee us victories. I am sure the other players would also welcome him back considering they didn't want him to leave in the first place.
Despite all this, there are still about 48 hours left in the transfer window and a flurry of transfer activity can still occur. There's no guarantee that Ashley Cole will still be a gunner on the 1st of September. We just have to wait and see, don't we?
